The illustration on the cover of this issue of the Quarterly is a woodcut made by Wharton Esherick. It introduces both the lead article on the old octagonal Diamond Rock School, and the piece on Wharton Esherick. It, and the other illustrations for the Esherick article, are reproduced through the courtesy of the Wharton Esherick Museum.

The article on the Diamond Rock School was originally prepared as a term paper by Walter Lutz when he was a student at West Chester State College. The author is the son-in-law of Harriet Detwiler Thomas, who was for many years the corresponding secretary of the Old Pupils Association of Diamond Rock; and is a niece of Emma Wersler, a descendant of the original donor of the land for the school building.

The Wharton Esherick Museum Studio and Collection on Diamond Rock Hill is open to the public by appointment. Appointments can be made by writing to the museum at Box 595 in Paoli or by calling (215) 644-5822.

Jacqueline Thibaut is a research historian, and the Park's research coordinator, at Valley Forge National Park. She has been at Valley Forge since she completed her graduate studies at the University of Pennsylvania. She was also the speaker at the Club's annual banquet, held last October. Credit for the transcription of her talk from tape goes to Elizabeth Goshorn.
