Our first two articles in this issue are companion pieces, relating to the history of the high-tension wires that run through the Valley in Tredyffrin Township.

The first, by Bob Geasey, is an account of the Conowingo Dam project, the genesis of the transmision lines, and the background of its development. The author is now retired from General Electric, but his interest in Conowingo, as he explains, began long before he became an electrical engineer. He has lived in Berwyn for more than 25 years.

Herb Fry presented excerpts from the article at our August meeting, along with his account of the ways in which the electric company obtained the right-of-way for the lines from the property owners in the Valley that were affected.

It is said that spontaneous celebrations are the best celebrations and the most fun. Our next feature, on how Berwyn celebrated the news of the end of World War II, certainly bears this out.

The quiz on old taverns and inns in our area, our concluding feature in this issue, was the program at our informal picnic meeting in July. Much of this information has previously appeared in the Quarterly; it is really sort of "old wine in a new bottle". (And if it is of any consolation to you, none of our members had all twenty correct answers either!)

Also included is an Index for the four issues of Volume XXXIII of the Quarterly. (And, incidentally, it is hoped that before the end of the year a cumulative index, now underway, for the first thirty-two volumes will be completed and available;
