Page 33

Ruth Dorothy Reed, a former member of the Tredyffrin Easttown History Club, died October 20, 2002 at Chester County Hospital, West Chester, at the remarkable age of 102. In recent years, she lived at the Pembrooke Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in West Chester.

Born in Philadelphia, she moved with her parents to a house in North Berwyn opposite the high school on April 1, 1920. During the 1920s, she took a job in the Berwyn post office, and served for many years as a clerk and later as assistant postmaster.

Following retirement in the 1960s, Dot Reed enjoyed her hobby of photography, and collecting vintage photographs and post cards of our local area. Over a 20-year period she assembled three large photo albums to house her collection, which have become the foundation of the photo archives of Tredyffrin Easttown History Club. She also contributed to the History Club Quarterly. She has left a rich legacy to future generations of Tredyffrin and Easttown Townships.

Dorothy Reed was a member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Wayne. She is survived by her cousin, Forrest Cooper of Rushland, Bucks County, Pennsylvania.
