Barbara McGuire Fry, a resident of Berwyn since 1953 and a beloved longtime History Club leader, died at her home on January 16, 2003. Barbara presented many Club programs, and made frequent contributions to the Quarterly. She seldom missed a meeting, and usually had an item of local interest to share. When the Club archives were moved to their present location in the Tredyffrin/Easttown School District Educational Services Center, Barbara led a group of volunteers in organizing and preserving them.

Barbara was born in Binghamton, New York, on December 11, 1925. From an early age she was interested in politics, government, and social studies. She also enjoyed literature and music, playing the piano, drums, and clarinet. While attending a local college, she balanced study with work as a department store buyer.

In 1950 she married C. Herbert Fry, and came to live in Philadelphia where she continued in merchandising at Strawbridge & Clothier. When Barbara and Herb moved to Berwyn in 1953, homemaking and raising four children were her main interests. She actively supported the children in their activities and the local schools, and served on school board committees.

Barbara was a volunteer at the Easttown Library; and at the Chester County Historical Society, where she worked on several preservation projects. Painting classes led to her interest in quilting. She was a member of several quilting groups and designed and made many beautiful quilts.

A long-time member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Berwyn, she was the church historian and served several years as the church librarian.

Barbara is survived by her husband Herb, children Jim, David, Joel, and Ann, and three grandchildren.

Barbara's research, writing, and organization skills will be missed by the History Club. We will remember her wide range of knowledge, and her joy in sharing and preserving our local history.
