Past Meeting

At our public meeting on Sunday, November 16, 2008 at 2 pm the featured presentation was:

A Centennial History of Our Lady of the Assumption Parish

by Celia Paolantonio and Christine Gaeto

Taken on November 20, 1921, the long-awaited day on which the cornerstone for the new stone structure of Our Lady of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church, Stafford, Pennsylvania, was laid.  The children and parishioners in this photo stand in front of the  old wooden chapel, in use since the founding of the parish in 1908.  The group then processed from the chapel to the new church site where the cornerstone was placed. This event was jointly sponsored by the Church, the Radnor Historical Society, and the Tredyffrin-Easttown Historical Society. Our Lady of the Assumption was founded as a parish for Italian immigrants to the Main Line. Its history is the subject of the recently completed book, From Humble Beginnings, A Journey of Grace: A Centennial History of Our Lady of the Assumption Parish 1908-2008, published in December, 2008. The book’s authors and parish historians Celia Paolantonio and Christine Gaeto spent more than two years researching the parish history. With the help of visuals such as maps, historical documents, and photographs, they shared the results of their research, touching on the reasons for immigration to the Main Line area, early Strafford history, and the building of the Church.

Please note that this meeting was held at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 35 Old Eagle School Road, Strafford, PA.
