Source: January, 1938 Volume 1 Number 2, Page 30 Club events, accomplished and contemplated Our Club has planned a field trip for each Sunday afternoon following the first Tuesday of the month, when the stated meetings are held. Weather permitting, we have had a good attendance. These trips are usually by automobile caravan to some place of historic interest, but occasionally the Club hikes over the local terrain for the sheer joy of walking, with the study of history incidental. In October a hike was taken over a part of the Horse Shoe Trail; in November a field trip to the Continental encampment at White Marsh, and in December another short hike to "Hill's Folly" gold mine and Hammer Hollow colonial mills. We have in contemplation, trips to the Pennsylvania University Museum, Tinicum Island, scene of the "Battle of the Clouds", another section of the Horse Shoe Trail, Wolf Creek coal mines, and Pennsbury. In addition to our field trips, our members have enjoyed an illustrated talk on old silver by Mrs. Alfred P. Prime, at the December meeting, and on December 1st, the first of a series of lectures in the Tredyffrin-Easttown Joint High School auditorium when Dr. Donald A. Cadzow, Archeologist of the Pennsylvania Historical Commission, gave us an insight of the research work now being conducted by the Commonwealth. This talk was illustrated by moving pictures. Future lectures, to which the public is invited, include "The Welsh Tract" by Professor S. Paul Teamer, "Old Philadelphia" by Mrs. Alfred P. Prince, and perhaps others. |
