Source: October 1940 Volume 3 Number 4, Page 86 Field trips - past and future The October 6 trip, at the height of the autumnal foliage, led the club into Berks County. The first stop was at the home of Thomas Rutter, ironmaster, at Pine Forge. Exeter Meeting, attended by Daniel Boone's ancestors, was visited next, then the birthplace of Daniel Boone, near Reading, which is now being restored. On the way home, the sites of the Hopewell and Reading furnaces were seen. The club was fortunate in having as guide Mr. C. B. Montgomery, former curator of the Berks County Historical Society, whose interesting comments at each stop added much to the interest. A hike is planned for November, under the leadership of Katherine Stroh. On December 8, the secretary, Mildred F. Bradley, will lead the club to Kennett Square and its environs. On January 12, the vice-president, Franklin L. Burns, will conduct a caravan to the Trappe Church. Further information on trips is obtainable from the secretary. Visitors are welcome. |
