We regret that at this time space will not permit the
publication of short biographies of the more prominent persons
interred here. The total number of graves cannot be determined
definitely, but there is evidence of at least 1375, including
the 115 unmarked save with undressed local mica schist
stones; limestone blanks, or with other indications of the
burial, and, of course, does not include the perhaps hundreds
in the old grounds with no trace of a marker of any
kind.
We have record of about 1260 burials, of which about
1150 have full data upon the span of life. There are symptoms
of infant mortality approximating 13% up to and including
the 5th year, and 15% up to the 10th year. Nearly
25% failed of reaching the adult age. However, about 50%
attained the age of 60 years; 36% 70 years or more; nearly
10% reached into the 80's and 2% well into the 90's. There
is one record of the attainment of 99 years, 1 month and
15 days, and another with an (unauthenticated) age of nearly
100 years.
There are about 75 flag graves indicative of military
service; 15 are otherwise unmarked. A very few are of the
Revolutionary period, but there are many of the Civil War,
several of whom made the supreme sacrifice and were fortunate
to find a resting place here.
The records of this Cemetery are noteworthy in the almost
unanimity of expression of resignation, by the living
and the dead, to the will of God. The rich collection of
folklore verse cannot be duplicated in this neighborhood,
