Source: July 1981 Volume 19 Number 3, Pages 91–96 Nineteenth Century Burials in St. Peter's Churchyard Several entries in the old Vestry Book concern burials at St. Peter's and are of interest. At the second Vestry meeting, on December 4, 1745, the Vestry acted with respect to burials inside the Church, when "it was ordered and agreed on for ye Better Regulating of said Church affairs That Every Grown Person admited to be Buried within the said Church walls Shall pay by their Heirs, Exrtrs, admrs, or friends ye Sum of five pounds to ye Church Wardins then being and the same to be Laid out for ye Use of ye Church at ye Discretion of ye Vestary for the time being, And Every Minour there Buried As aforesaid Shall pay half ye Sume aforesaid in the Manner aforesaid and for the Use as afore, "This to continue till Repeald." (Spelling original) At the same time, the Vestry also ordered that to prevent "any Evil Report on our Christian Burial place for time to Come, by any pratice not Admited by ye Church of England Where Establish'd, That no persons what So Ever Laying of Vilant hands Upon themselves to ye taking away of their Life Shall be admited Directly or indirectly A Burial within ye said Church Yard Walls." (Spelling original) Not long afterwards, they further ordered "yt ye southeast Corner of said Church-Yard shall be to Bury Strangers in." The listing of burials at St. Peter's continues with the persons with surnames beginning with the letters "M" through "P". Top- M - Mamie II., daughter of B.
