Source: October 1981 Volume 19 Number 4, Page 102 Foreword The author of the first article, Eva Noll, was earlier this year the recipient of an "Outstanding Woman" award from the Pennsylvania Division of the American Association of University Women. Her "The Three Worlds of William Penn", incidentally, serves as an introduction to the observance of the tercentenary of Pennsylvania in Chester County, which formally begins in 1982. The wares of the general store of the late nineteenth century are illustrated by the advertisements for I. A. Cleaver's store in Berwyn, the second article in this issue. It was one hundred years ago that Alexander J. Cassatt, later the president of the Pennsylvania Railroad, started his stock farm in Tredyffrin Township. The next article gives a look at his Chesterbrook Farm, its stables, and some of the more famous horses raised there. Finally, we continue Elizabeth Rumrill's series listing the nineteenth century burials in St. Peter's churchyard, based on the compilation made by Miss Ellen Gooding. Also included is an Index for the four issues comprising Volume XIX of the Quarterly. |
