A dozen members of St. John's Presbyterian Church, including its minister, the Rev. Ernest McMillan, were guests of the club when Eva Noll presented her paper on the history of the church at one of the club's meetings. The meeting, incidentally, was held in the Carriage House of the Church.

The Fourth of July was much noisier half a century ago, before the sale of firecrackers was restricted by local ordinances. In the next feature in this issue, club members remember when firecrackers (as opposed to fireworks) were a part of the celebration of Independence Day,

The article on dating the Van Leer Log Cabin is adapted from a paper prepared by Priscilla L. Cox Southwell in May 1957 for the then Paoli Area High School System. To the best of our knowledge it has not been published previously.

Bob Goshorn's account of the beginnings of the Valley Forge Military Academy was also presented at one of the club's meetings. It was fifty-five years ago this fall that the Academy was started, in the old Devon Inn buildings in Easttown Township.

The observations on Bartram's Bridge were recently written by Anna Bartram in her 102d year! They first appeared in the Foulkways Bulletin Supplement. The old covered bridge connects two of our neighboring townships - Willistown in Chester County and Newtown in Delaware County.

Finally, the reports on the last year of operation of Tredyffrin High School and Easttown High School, seventy-five years ago, are taken from the Chester County Teachers' Hand Book for 1908.
