Erickson On Wednesday, October 28, 1983, Charles Erickson, a long-time member of the Tredyffrin Easttown History Club, passed away after a lengthy illness. He was 89 years old. Born in Philadelphia on August 21, 1894, he was a graduate of Girard College. He served as a first lieutenant in the First World War and was wounded at the Battle of Verdun. After the war he became an investment counselor, retiring from the firm of Hopper, Soliday & Company in 1974 after fifty-one years in the investment business. He married Winona Cadwallader in 1921. In 1926 they moved to Paoli, where they lived for forty-eight years, moving to Berwyn in 1974 just before Winona's death. Active in community affairs, Charlie was also a member of the Wayne Masonic Lodge for more than sixty years, a member of the Dickens Fellowship, and at one time served on the Troop Committee of Paoli Troop 81 of the Boy Scouts. He was also a very active member of the Valley Friends Meeting, serving for many years as its treasurer. He was also treasurer of the History Club for sixteen years, from 1944 to 1960. His participation in any activity was always characterized by a strong sense of dedication and loyalty. He is survived by two daughters, Grace (Mrs. Glenn Wommer, of Cooperstown, Pa.) and Jean (Mrs. Folkert Kadyk, of Berwyn), five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. |
