He was 91 years old. Born in Camden, N. J., he also lived in Maryland for several years before moving to Berwyn with his beloved wife Helen. He joined the U. S. Postal Service in 1920 as a letter carrier in Wayne, serving the same route for thirty-three years before retiring in 1953. Walking about 100 miles each week, he estimated that he had carried mail more than 150,000 miles - or six times around the world at the equator! One of his principal interests was Indian lore. Over the years he collected numerous artifacts, and he spoke often about the Indians at local schools and club meetings. He was also a member of the Chester County Historical Society, active for many years with the Boy Scouts, and a member of the Trinity Presbyterian Church in Berwyn for more than 60 years. Interment was at the Great Valley Presbyterian Church cemetery. |
