Source: April 1985 Volume 23 Number 2, Page 40 Foreword Meg Daly Twaddell's handsome book, Inns, Tales, and Taverns of Chester County, which she describes as "a combination story book, restaurant guide, recipe collection and photographic tour of Chester County", was published last fall. Her article in this issue is taken from a talk, based on the book, that she gave at the club's November meeting. The talk, illustrated with slides of photographs in the book, also covered other inns in the county as well as these four local ones. When the program on the Berwyn Lyceum was presented at the January meeting of the club, the program also included a "mini-lyceum". Club members taking part in the program included Libby Weaver, Grace Winthrop, Shirley Hough, Barbara Fry, Liz Goshorn, and Leighton Haney in addition to the speaker, Bob Goshorn. The next article, on General Anthony Wayne's military accomplishments, was written forty-five or so years ago, but to the best of our knowledge is now being published for the first time. The author, S. Paul Teamer, a former principal and history teacher at the Tredyffrin Easttown High School, was one of the founders of the History Club and its first president. The railroad was obviously a significant factor in the growth and development of our area. The final article, on the Philadelphia and Columbia Rail Road, tells of its beginnings. If this is more than you really want to know about the railroad, we suggest that you just skip the first three and a half pages!) |
