Smith's 1887 Atlas of Properties Along the Pennsylvania R.R. from Overbrook to Malvern, and of G. Wm. Baist's similar atlas of 1893, showing property owners and other information as of that time. Both atlases are in fragile condition, but are an important source of information about this area. History of Newtown Township Published Historic Newtown Township, a history of Newtown Township, our neighbor to the south, has recently been completed and published. The project was started in conjunction with the township's tricentennial in 1981, and is edited by Carl and Alice Lindborg, with contributions by Clara McVeigh, Erma Shaver, and many others. It is available from the Newtown Historical Society and at the Newtown Police Station, Club Member Honored At the 11th anniversary dinner of the Penn's Grant Chapter of the Colonial Dames XVII Century, held last October, Frances H. Ligget was especially honored as one of the founding members of the chapter, (There cognition came as a complete surprise to her!) It was at the Ligget's home, Stirling's Quarters, that the chapter was organized on October 31, 1973. Mrs. Ligget also received recognition from the Washington Memorial Chapel at Valley Forge for her donation of three decorative granite finials for the stone posts at the entrance to the gardens behind the Chapel. |
