We first learned of the proposed National Washington Memorial Church at Valley Forge from an old newspaper clipping. It was tucked away in an old guide book to Valley Forge Leighton Haney picked up at an auction, and described the cornerstone laying for the Church. After several visits to the Park we finally found the cornerstone -- and with some research Bob Goshorn has put together the story of the project. Like the move of the University of Pennsylvania to Valley Forge, discussed in our January issue earlier this year, it is a part of our local history that never happened.

In conjunction with the observance of our nation's bicentennial in 1976 the Chester County Library conducted a number of "oral history" interviews with various people in the county. Mary Eachus recollections of Paoli during the first half of this century are adapted from an interview with her made in July 1978, transcribed here for the first time.

Irene and Bill Wheeler, who last year moved from Paoli to Foulkeways, presented their paper on the Gwynedd Meeting at a Club meeting held this spring at their new home.

April 14, 1986 was "moving day" in Paoli as the 93-year old Paoli Library building was moved to save it from demolition. In our pictorial report of the move, we show its progress on its way to its new location.

For our last article in this issue, we simply observe that Cooperstown is a great place to go to for research. The amount of information in the archives of the Baseball Hall of Fame is obviously almost incredible!

Finally, the passing of two members of the Club is noted with deep sorrow.
