Tredyffrin Has New Township Manager In July Joseph A. Janasik was named Tredyffrin Township Manager, succeeding Norman Mawby, who retired after 23 years in the position "to work on projects that are fun" and not related to the operations of municipal government. A former teacher, it has been suggested that these projects will probably involve working with young people in colleges and universities, as well as consulting work. During Mawby's almost quarter-century as township manager, the population of Tredyffrin more than doubled, as much of the "open space" in the township was developed for housing and offices with the growth of the "high tech corridor" along Route 202. Mawby's successor has served as the assistant township manager since 1962 and was deeply involved in the Chesterbrook project, as well as zoning concerns and outside financing for specific township projects. The new Assistant Township Manager is Terry Woodman, who was also a member of the township manager's staff before her appointment to her new position. TopGrant for Waynesborough A grant of $50,000 has been approved by the state for renovations at Waynesborough, the birthplace and home of General Anthony Wayne in Easttown Township. The funds will be used in part for the restoration of the carriage house, with space for meeting rooms. The work will be done under the direction of the Landmark Society. In addition to the monies from the state, a fund-raising committee has raised another $35,000 for the project. TopPaoli Attorney in Football Home of Fame Early this summer Anthony J. "Skip" Minisi, an attorney living in Paoli, and a Supervisor for Easttown Township, was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the National College Football Foundation. During his collegiate career between 1944 and 1947, Minisi was an All-American halfback at both the U. S. Naval Academy and the University of Pennsylvania. He also played briefly with the New York Giants in the N. F. L. before entering into law. Before his election to the Board of Supervisors, he was a member of the Tredyffrin-Easttown School Board. TopT/E Junior High Receives National Recognition In addition to its recognition by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, reported in this year's April issue of the Quarterly, the Tredyffrin/Easttown Junior High School was one of 271 secondary schools in the United States cited for excellence in secondary education by the U. S. Department of Education. With this honor to the junior high school, Tredyffrin/Easttown schools at all three levels - elementary, junior high, and senior high -- have now received national recognition for excellence. Commenting on the award, Dr. George Garwood, Superintendent of Schools, observed that "it reflects on both our staff and our community". TopThank You "The Tredyffrin-Easttown History Club, organized in 1936 and still active," [it is noted in the background material in the proposed Land Use Plan for Tredyffrin Township] "has published 24 volumes of historical research and commentary on the area. The quarterly journals of the club have explored Tredyffrin's settlement and development, as well as its more recent history. It is an admirable body of work whose continuance is of particular value in view of the absence of a definitive history of the Township." Actually, as we complete Volume XXV of the Quarterly, this is the 101st issue the Club has published. |
