Source: October 1988 Volume 26 Number 4, Page 122 Foreword Our first article in this issue, describing the Chesterbrook Farm at the turn of the century, first appeared in the December 1901 [Vol. I, No. 2] issue of "Country Life in America", a magazine published by Doubleday, Page & Co. In anticipation of the coming presidential election this fall, in the next feature Bob Goshorn recounts the various polling places -- ten for Easttown and nine for Tredyffrin -- to which the voters of our two townships went to cast their ballots over the years in the 18th and 19th century). The July meeting of the Club was held at the Old Eagle School house in Stratford, at which time Marie Sutcliffe, a former Trustee of the School, spoke on its history and conducted a tour through the adjacent graveyard. Earlier in the summer, the School commemorated its 200th anniversary with an open house, band concert, and presentation of the colors by the First Philadelphia City Troop. In our second portfolio of old bill forms are invoices from some of the local blacksmith shops and other businesses concerned with the horse and horse-drawn transportation. Our last feature is proof that there is really nothing new about the road and traffic problems in Tredyffrin Township or the long controversy over the Blue Route. The information came from the old road dockets now apart of the Chester County Archives in West Chester. Also included in this issue is the Index for Volume XXVI. |
