Source: January 1989 Volume 27 Number 1, Page 2 Foreword Our opening article has already appeared in print -- in the Bulletin of the Berwyn [Illinois] Historical Society. When Bob Goshorn learned that they were making their headquarters in their old Berwyn depot, he sent them a copy of this history of our Berwyn station. To his surprise, it was included in the next issue of their Bulletin. The next feature is a transcription of a Club meeting held at Christmas time a year ago. The toys described were brought to the meeting by the club members as they recalled toys from Christmases past. Nancy B. Schmitt is the chairman of the Malvern Borough Historical Commission. As a part of her research for the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Borough's incorporation in 1889, she painstakingly transcribed the journals of David Evans, now in the collections of the Chester County Historical Society. Our next article is an excerpt from her transcription, and is included with the permission of the Historical Society. Similarly, the account of a sleighing party that appears next is a "by-product" of Barbara Fry's research on the history of the Trinity Presbyterian Church in Berwyn, which in 1988 commemorated its 125th anniversary. Our last feature, on the archaeological investigation of the site of Conway's Brigade at Valley Forge, was presented by Allen Cooper at one of our club meetings late last summer. The author was one of the archaeologists involved in the work at the site. |
