Source: July 1989 Volume 27 Number 3, Page 82 Foreword Sandy Momyer was the speaker at the April meeting of the club. A summa cum laude graduate of nearby Cabrini College, with a major in American Studies, she is currently Executive Director of Historic Yellow Springs, Inc. In her talk she recalled six different phases in the continuing development of this historic site where the first army hospital was built during the Revolutionary War. If you grew up on a farm, chances are that you may remember how delightfully cool the springhouse was on a hot summer day. In our next feature is a sampling of the many springhouses still standing in Tredyffrin and Easttown townships, sketched by Meg Fruchter. The changing face of Paoli was the topic of discussion at our March meeting, with members and guests recalling Paoli "as it was", and the changes that have taken place along Lancaster Avenue over the years. Additional recollections of businesses that have come and gone -- before they're forgotten -- are most welcome. Bob Goshorn's article on Mary Cassatt is an excerpt from a talk he gave to the volunteers of the Wayne Art Center. The information was particularly timely when a writer for a stamp journal, not long after the new 27 cent stamp featuring Mary Cassatt was issued last November, called to ask where on Cassatt Avenue in Berwyn the artist had lived! And, in our Notes and Comments, we note the 50th anniversary of the Open Land Conservancy. |
