Source: October 1989 Volume 27 Number 4, Pages 156–156 In Memoriam : Charles E. Lee During the past year the Tredyffrin Easttown History Club lost one of its members when Chuck Lee passed away, after a brief illness, at his home on September 21, 1988. He was 82 years old at the time of his death. Although he was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., Chuck Lee was an "old-timer" in Berwyn, having moved here in 1922. His recollections of the old stores and businesses in Berwyn, the people he knew, and the changes that have taken place in the village over a period of sixty-five years added much to the discussions at club meetings. His wife, the former Merle Walker, is a daughter of Frank and Agnes Walker who operated the drug store in Berwyn for many years. Before his retirement in 1971 he worked as a clerk for the then Burroughs Corporation [now Unisys] in Paoli. In addition to his activities in the History Club, he was an active member of the Trinity Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon and took part in many other church activities. He was also a member of the Berwyn Fire Company. . Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Charles H. Lee, now living in Madera, California; a daughter, Mildred Lee Brown, of West Chester; and two grandchildren. |
