On the sign posts showing the names of many of the roads in our area is also reflected a bit of local history -- "History on a Sign Post". For a club meeting earlier this year, several club members traced the sources of the names of roads near their homes. In our first feature in this issue, we present their findings about roads in Berwyn and Devon; we hope similarly to present information on road names in other sections of the two townships in coming issues.

Ruth Gold West's experiences in reproducing various Lenape Indian artifacts were also presented at an earlier club meeting. Mrs. West, who taught in the Great Valley School District before retirement, has also prepared a packet of materials and information on Indian crafts for use by elementary school children.

In addition to his many contributions to the Tredyffrin Easttown History Club and its Quarterly, Franklin L. Burns wrote a number of articles for various ornithological journals and was regarded as one of the leading amateur ornithologists in Chester County. In the next article, written some years ago but never published, his two interests are combined.

The picture portfolio of sketches of the Knox Covered Bridge by various artists is a sequel to a similar portfolio on the Diamond Rock School which appeared earlier in the April 1983 issue [Volume XXI, Number 2] of the Quarterly.

Some of you may remember the Nike base that was established on Diamond Rock Hill in the mid-1950s. In the final article in this issue is a brief account of its ten years as a part of the anti-aircraft defense system for Philadelphia and the Delaware Valley area.
