Page 123

One of our active club members, Jerry Slaymaker, also passed away this spring, on March 30, 1992, at his home, after a brief illness. He was 79 years of age.

A native of Malvern, born on "the Lapp farm" in East Whiteland Township, he was the son of the late Fillmore C. and Susan E. Stern Slaymaker. Although his real name was Clarence, he was known to everyone as "Jerry".

He went to the old grammar school on the Lincoln Highway in Frazer, and then attended Radnor High School.

During the Second World War he served in the U. S. Navy in the Pacific Theater, and after the war became a member of the local chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Before his retirement in 1974 he was employed as a shop foreman at the Matthews Sales Company in Paoli.

He was also a member of the Paoli Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years. On June 13th of last year he and his wife celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary.

He is survived by his wife, Anne Comins Slaymaker, currently the corresponding secretary of the History Club, a daughter, who lives in Allentown, and a sister.
