Source: October 1992 Volume 30 Number 4, Page 128 Foreword In recognition of the 75th anniversary of the dedication of the National Memorial Arch at Valley Forge National Historical Park [see Notes and Comments] the Club held its June meeting at the Arch. Our speaker was the Park Superintendent, Warren D. "Denny" Beach. His comments on "sacred places" offer another perspective on the significance of the park and Valley Forge. The next feature was presented at the Club's annual banquet back in 1976, replete with a quartet accompanied by a tin whistle and bass drum, but was never included in the Quarterly. With another presidential election this fall, we felt it appropriate to include it in this issue, even if without the quartet. And what's new about "negative" campaigning? It was 40 years ago this summeer that Berwyn began its transition from a village to suburbia with the development of Easttown Woods in the eastern end of the village. In our next article Herb Fry recounts this change, and also the factors that led to the delay of the development until the 1950s. In a companion piece Barbara Fry gives us a look at life in Easttown Woods in its early years. This issue also includes the index for Volume XXX |
