She was the widow of Jerry Slaymaker, who predeceased her by a year less four days. Born in Strafford on September 12, 1913, she was a daughter of Paul Chauncey and Sarah Jane Shanaman Comins. A lifelong resident of this area, she was a member of the Class of 1933 at Tredyffrin Easttown High School, where she worked on the Yearbook and Eastfrin staffs and sang in the chorus. After graduation she worked at the Paoli Bank and Paoli Hardware Store for many years, but she was primarily a homemaker. She was an active member of the Paoli Presbyterian Church and a member of the Church Choir and Senior Bell Choir; a member of the General Federation of Women's Clubs and a past president of both the Monday Afternoon Club and the Chester County Federation of Women's Clubs; and also a former Brownie Troop leader in the Girl Scouts. She is survived by her daugher, Susan Boyer, a talented musician and soprano soloist, of Allentown; by a sister, Sarah Kreamer, of Naples, Florida; and by a brother, Oliver Comins, of Malvern. A frequent contributor to the History Club, especially in our "Club Members Remember" programs, she will be missed not only by her family but also by the club and its members. |
