She was born in Philadelphia but was a long-time resident of Paoli, although she had lived recently at Hershey's Mill. She was a 1937 graduate of Tredyffrin Easttown High School. She worked as a medical assistant for Dr. J. A. Kelly, Dr. J. A. Kelly Jr., and Dr. Barry Burkhardt. We remember Virginia for her dedication as president of the Club in 1990-1991, and later in 1994-1997 as second vice president. She had a great fund of information about Paoli history which she loved to relate. She was also active in a number of other local organizations. She was a past Noble Grand of the Rebekah Lodge, a past president of the Monday Afternoon Club, and was for many years a director of the Needlework Guild. She was an active member of Paoli Presbyterian Church. Virginia is survived by her second husband, Clyde S. Mentzer, with whom she had shared 13 years of marriage. In addition, she is survived by two sons, Stephen B. Snyder of Corona, California, and Carl D. Snyder of Paoli, a stepson, Richard Mentzer of Michigan, and four grandchildren. She was laid to rest at Philadelphia Memorial Park in Frazer. We will miss Virginia and the many things she did on behalf of the Club. |
