Source: April 2000 Volume 38 Number 2, Page 73 New Rules for Lost Dogs (a classified advertisement) Joseph Hergesheimer of North High Street [West Chester] announces a new scale of rewards for his Airedale terriers when they are again lost. First, no more than twenty-five cents will be paid for any dog brought back within forty-eight hours. Second, boys stopping by with sympathetic inquiries will be met with indifference in place of the small exchange forthcoming heretofore. Third, clues substantiated or otherwise will be unremunerated. Fourth, individuals appearing with other breeds of dogs, rabbit or gutter, St. Bernard, hairless Mexican, should first familiarize themselves with the general outline of the Airedale as otherwise they will be met only with contempt. It will be useless in this connection to speak of the great distance from which such dogs have been brought or the staggering financial losses incurred. Nothing will be paid. Fifth, positively no boy may find any dog more than once. Sixth, any evident basis of understanding between boy and dog will be regarded as suspicious circumstances. Finally, any obligation incurred by Mrs. Hergesheimer for such purposes will be promptly dishonored. |
