Tredyffrin was one of the last parts of the Welsh Tract to be settled. Parcels of land in the township were purchased a number of years before any settlement took place and the actual date of the township's founding is only known through inference. Once settlement started the township grew into a prosperous farming community. The Revolutionary War had a large impact on the community as the armies of both sides camped in the township.
